EN: Well, after 10 km running, probably I’m in the right mental mood to summarize my experiences and opinions about the last month that I spent abroad. If I should condense my point only into one sentence, it would be something like that:
It’s not what I expected…
I don’t say that it’s a bad thing, since this is also an experience that makes me more. I believe that things happen for a reason, however we should also control our life, as much as it’s possible 🙂
I was so freaking happy in spring when I realized that I won the stipendium to spend two months in Barcelona, one of the most beautiful cities in the world. As long as I have been abroad for the similar reason (one month last year and three weeks in this summer), I wasn’t really worried. I’m an independent type anyway and as I mentioned, I already have such experiences. Now I’m still happy to be here, since I visited beautiful places so far (and I still hope that I will), I made new friends and memories for all of my life. However, there are weird things, that are so hard to get used to or it’s even not possible during this time…
It’s strange that people don’t really talk to me in the lab, where I work. Last year I was also working with Spanish people and we still keep in touch, as we became good friends. Here they don’t really care that I don’t understand a single word of the lunch break chatter. And they say that they’re too lazy to speak in English… Well, OK… (however I don’t really do the same with foreign people in our laboratory). However, I became to a regular member of the university gym, where people are very nice to me, they always come to me to talk, so… well, I’m not complaining…
Probably you also noticed that I didn’t write outfit posts recently. There is only one and very simple reason for that, it’s quite complicated without a photographer. Okay, maybe it’s not so simple since my man – who is also one of my photographers – is staying here as well, however he’s 20 km-s away due to a small misunderstanding. This means that we can meet in the weekends. And all the weekends so far, we organized some sightseeing, hiking or going to the beach and I think you understand that I won’t dress like I’m going to and outfit shoot if we are walking all day. However we’re going to change this, I still have three weeks here and I’m staying in a pretty cool place so I won’t leave without having any outfit pics 😛
What was the hardest to live with (and it’s still hard…), is the change of the standard of living. My stipendium was just enough to pay the travel costs and the accomodation so this means that I have to pay everything else on my own. I have no problem with this at home but here there are much higher prices so it’s quite difficult to live with having a Hungarian scholarship (that I don’t have for three months…). I have no idea how much can master students get with the same result that I have but just for comparison: PhD scholarship is around 350 EUR in our little country while here you can take home 1300 EUR as a PhD student. That amount of money is quite okay to live here normally so just compare the two numbers and you’ll immediately realize, what I’m talking about. Well, it’s not a problem that I can’t go to, let’s say Zara to spend 30000 HUF, but it is, if somebody invites my somewhere, sometimes I have to say no since I just can’t afford to pay a lot for entrance or 10 EUR for a gin – tonic. Or I can’t go to a coffe shop without feeling guilty about how much I spend. Because I have to eat something, buy a season ticket to use public transport (the cheapest one is 43 EUR/month) and if I’m already here, I should also visit some local monuments and they’re also not for free…
I don’t say that I feel bad or I regret coming here but to be honest, I can’t wait to go home… 🙂
Well, most of you have voted for more personal posts 🙂 I don’t know what you were thinking about exactly but I hope you liked this kind of report. You can follow the Facebook page of the blog here.
A szavazáson a személyesebb jellegű bejegyzések nyertek, nem tudom pontosan mire gondoltatok, remélem ez a kis beszámoló elnyerte a tetszéseteket 🙂 A blog Facebook – oldalát itt tudjátok követni.
