EN: Completing a half marathon was on my list for a while and despite being in a good condition to accomplish it easily, somehow I couldn’t make it happen until last week. In spring, I really wanted to enter one, but then I was medically forced to take a break and skip running due to periostitis and arthritis inflammation :'( After my recovery I didn’t have any certain plans, but then in July, one night I had insomnia and suddenly decided to registrate to the WizzAir half marathon 😀
I know that many people have been preparing themselves for this day a while, but to be honest, I didn’t have any particular training plan. In summer I had many outdoor runnings, I easily completed 10 k almost every time, so I just wanted to go for 15-16 k twice or three times before the big day. The rest was rather a question of mental health, which means that I’m good and I also knew that the people around and the amazing atmosphere will help me to accomplish the distance 🙂
Due to a hard leg day at the gym, I managed to strain my waist just a week before the event, so in the upcoming days I did my workout sessions in a reduced mode. I also completed only 7-10 k runnings in a slower pace to spare myself a little, except the 2nd of September, when I attended a running competition. I entered the 8 k distance, which is quite okay for me, however it took place at sort of a cross trail with 280 m difference. Because of this I wasn’t sure if it’s a good idea to start that race with my injured waist, but I didn’t want to miss it and finally I ended up with a bronze medal 😛 😀
After such a background story, maybe I should start writing about the half marathon, haha 😀 After having a smaller portion of porridge for breakfast, I left my place around 8 am and decided to jog that 1.7-1.8 km to the City Park as a warm up 🙂 I met Anett there, who came to cheer for her boyfriend. After a short session of gymnastics it was time to go to the starting point. I planned to run in a 5:00/km average pace (I’ll write more about this soon), so I registered to Zone 3. Special thanks to the organizers for doing the start in waves, it’s quite a smart idea, since there were 15.000 participants, which means loooooooots of people throughout the whole distance. However, thanks to this process, we didn’t have to skip ahead each other in every second and having a bunch of people running next to me with almost the same pace could also give some motivation! ?
Speaking about my plans and the 5:00/km pace, I planned to keep this average pace, which is quite pleasant for me, but still an active speed 🙂 Then, after 15-16 k I intended to rock the rest, if I still have the energy 😛 However, my first priority was to complete the half marathon, since I’ve never ran such a long distance in my life and despite of knowing that it won’t be a difficult issue, this time instead of killing myself I wanted to listen to my body and let this event be a delightful memory 🙂
The first 16-17 k with an 5:00/km average pace was quite easy, and felt really good without any significant effort, like it was my daily routine, haha 😀 So after 16 k, I decided to challenge myself a bit and run faster, then I started to feel that I’m doing something 😀 The last 3 k was the difficult part if I can say, when I had to focus mentally as well. It wasn’t hard and I didn’t feel bad, but I had to concentrate 🙂
Finally, I reached the finish line at 1:43:00 which means a 4:53 average pace 🙂 I’m absolutely satisfied with everything, starting with the completion of this distance, which also means that I can tick off one thing from my challenge list 😛 I have no idea if I’ll enter another half marathon this year, but I already registered to the Actimel 10k competition, which will take place on the 15th October 🙂 However, I’m sure that 20k runnings will be included in my workout routine, at least once a month. Last but not least, I highly recommend everyone to complete a half marathon, it’s an incredible experience, I’m going to remember for this day forever! ♥
